Rain Trees
International Preschool Singapore
Established in 1999, Rain Trees is an independent, international preschool and kindergarten in Singapore.
We are a small school with a big heart, known for our supportive and inclusive atmosphere, which provides children aged 18 months to 6 years a stimulating and friendly learning environment.
At Rain Trees, the emphasis is on learning through play in an environment planned to stimulate independence, discovery and social interaction.
Children are encouraged to help themselves and take initiative in order to develop self-esteem, social competence and become increasingly independent.
A large number of our students are from the international community in Singapore. Our aim is to help each individual child enjoy learning in a safe and caring environment and as they progress through the school we prepare them for a seamless transition to an international primary school.
Rain Trees is owned and managed by a combination of British and Singapore citizens since its establishment in 1999. Over time we have modified the British based curriculum to meet the particular demands and needs of the international expatriate community in the Asia Pacific region. In addition to offering a modern topic based curriculum, Rain Trees is noted for its small and family orientated environment which many parents prefer to be their child’s first school experience.
We have a strong and dedicated team of local and international teaching staff offering well-rounded programmes that provide a solid learning foundation for our younger children and prepare our older children for a successful transition to an international primary school.
A Typical Day at Rain Trees
The school day is structured to provide a familiar time table for the children.
Arrival of Children | Children arrive at staggered timing to ensure a calm and easy drop off, and have their temperature taken and hands sanitised. They then enjoy free play in their classrooms at various stations before sitting down for circle time with their teacher to talk about the day’s activities. |
Learning Time | The children then work and play in small groups with a teacher. Activities will vary according to the current topic, but will include maths, reading , writing, science, art and craft and cooking. Rain Trees is pleased to have a dedicated Mandarin teacher who works with all the classes to give 30-45 minutes of Mandarin a day. With plenty of reading material for all ages and book corners for the children to read in, Rain Trees encourages the children to value and care for books and to develop an appreciation for reading from an early age. Each week the children can enjoy cooking in our kitchen, where they develop the skills and understanding of cooking in a fun and healthy way. |
Break & Snack | Snack time each day provides the children with the opportunity for language development, social interaction and table manners. During this time, the children enjoy healthy snacks that are brought in from home. |
Playtime | The children are given plenty of time for outside play and to make use of our fabulous garden. Aside from a wonderful mud kitchen, a planting area, climbing frames, ride-on toys and various outdoor games, the children have the freedom to run around, play and have fun with their friends in a completely safe space. Splash time on a Friday is a wonderful weekly activity, giving the children the opportunity to change into their swimsuits and enjoy supervised play with water in the garden. |
End of Day | By the end of their day, the children are excited to return home and share all the fun about what they have learned that day. The school day ends with a story and good-bye song. |
There is an optional English or Mandarin afternoon session until 2.30pm, once their midday nap has been reduced or dropped.
COMMUNICATION WITH PARENTS
Communication is very important to us at Rain Trees and we strive to keep parents informed as much
as possible. We do this through the following:
Each class sends out a daily update every morning of the activities that they have done in school that day. This not only helps you to know what is going on but to encourage language development at home whereby you can discuss your child’s day with them. The daily update includes photos taken from the previous day.
Parents will all receive their own personal login details for Taidii. It is used daily to maintain regular direct communication between teachers and parents. Photos will also be shared regularly on this.
Throughout the year our teachers are happy to meet with you should you feel the need or have any concerns. Likewise, our teachers will contact you for a meeting if they feel it would be beneficial.
We give out school reports once a year in June/July. If your child leaves mid school year we will give you a leavers report.
